MANILA, Philippines - World Boxing Council lightweight champion Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao on Monday formally took his oath as a member of President Arroyo’s Kabalikat ng Mamamayang Pilipino (Kampi).
A report from QTV’s News on Q said the oath-taking took place inside the office of Interior and Local Government secretary and Kampi chairman Ronaldo Puno in Camp Crame.
The report added that the 29-year-old boxer decided to join Kampi because he wanted to show Filipinos that he can also be a champion in serving his countrymen.
In 2007, Pacquiao ran under Liberal Party wing of Environment Secretary Lito Atienza as representative of the 1st district of South Cotabato, but lost against reelectionist candidate Darlene Antonino-Custodio of the National People’s Coalition (NPC).
He however joined Kampi come election time.
