Janina San Miguel - Bb. Pilipinas World 2008
I was actually hesitant to post this video of 2008 Bb. Pilipinas World winner Janina San Miguel because in a way, it shows how bad her English skill is. I am no English expert but I can completely recognize someone who just sucks at speaking the language. Geez, she should have just spoken Tagalog or whatever it is which can help her convey her message clearly. The Question and Answer portion was a disaster for her. Fortunately for her, the judges didn’t seem to mind the fiasco. She won the title anyhow.
A little bird told me she is taking BA in Mass Communication at the University of the East (UE). Totally ironic.

almost 30% of beauty queen contestants do not know how to speak proper english and there are even those who can not speak and understand english at all… tama si charlene gonzales ang importante is how is she going to represent our COUNTRY with her natural beauty (w/c is 1 of the factors that made her the winner on that contest) and how well will her answer be to judges’ question…
katulad ka lang ni ruffa guitierez na mataas ang tingin sa sarili and may CRAB MENTALITY, instead na tulungan ang kapwa FILIPINO ay ibinababa pa, bakit kailangan pang sabihin ni ruffa sa TV at ilagay mo sa INTERNET na BOBO sa INGLES ang mga FILIPINO eh FILIPINO ka rin nmn di ba… di BOBO ka rin … kung hindi sa ingles sa MORALITY and sa PAGMAKABAYAN…. alam mo ba na ang ECONOMY ng bansang vietnam , a war torn country, ay mas matatag na ecomony ng Pilipinas … bakit ganon mas magaling nmn tayong mag-ingles kaysa kanila bakit hindi natin mapa-angat ang economy natin ….yan dahil sa mga taong kautlad mo at ni ruffa guitirez na ayaw maging mas maunlad ang KAPWA nila kaysa sa kanila….. next year ikaw nmn ang sumali sa Bb. Pilipinas para malaman namin how your english is o baka nmn magaling ka lang sa english pero napakaPANGIT mo nmn kaya for sure TALO ka or baka nga di ka pa makapasa sa screening pa lang …hehehe

hmmm… relax lang po kayo lahat. wla namang masamang intention ang post na ito. sinabi lang naman ng blogger yung sariling opinion niya at lahat naman tayo entitled to that. di naman niya sinabing bobo si janina. he was only referring to the way she answered the question.
alam naman nating lahat na marami ang nagtaka kung bakit nanalo si janina lalo na at mali-mali ang kanyang ingles. siyempre, sa mga taong affected, di nila maiwasang mag react kasi alam namin nating lahat na marami ding mga Pinay ang nagsusumikap na i-angat ang image nila — from being considered as a sex symbol to someone who’s both got beauty and brains. yung others din naman nag-aalala kung paano maii-represent ni janina yung bansa kung dun pa lang sa question and answer eh di na niya masagot ng tama.
if u ask me, i got disappointed nung malaman ko that she won the title; though alam ko rin that she got pressured… ang sa akin lang, everybody deserves a second chance para i-redeem yung sarili nila… and, il give janina that. nakita ko naman na she’s really confident and she still has enough time to prepare for the Miss World competition. she’s got the beauty and the body na pwede talagang maipantapat sa ibang mga contestants.. so i wish her luck..

@ tom: crab mentality my ass! hindi ko ibanababa ang kapwa pilipino noh. if you could only spare a few moments off your blathering spree and review my interview on youtube, you’ll see i was only spurring janina to improve herself. i’ve been there, so i know there’s still time to polish her communication skills and her poise. redeem herself, yes. tumawa mn ako, natural lng yun. masayahin akong tao eh. ahahaha!
I just want to make a comment about this issue, on my opinion I understand the side of Janina, ramping and facing a lot of people is not an easy,and Janina is a first timer in joining this pageant, we need to be considerate, don’t be judgmental in speaking words without thinking and analyzing every one deserves a second chance. Janina, maybe answered the question in a zigzag. Why don’t just gave her a second chance to take this a challenge and a chance to develop. To prove that she deserve a second chance.
Miss Ruffa, I know you have all the talent, beauty and brain and very strong as what I’ve known you in the television. To tell you honestly, you don’t need to published or to proclaimed to the number of people that you are disappointed with the result of the judgment. Admit that she did not make it, to answered it in a right and correct grammar, but, still did her best. Maybe, we just focus to the judges, why she reigned?, because the judges believing that she has a got and power to represent the country, everything has undergone with the processes of judgment, criteria and a lot more. All you need to do is TO BELIEVE AND BELIEVE what she can do…..
Miss Ruffa, I know you are entitled for your opinion but you have to consider the feelings of other people around you. I’m not good in english as what you say about janina and yet I believe to her capacity to represent our country.Tsaka haler hindi siya dapat ang sisihin mo sa pagkapanalo niya may mga judges po at alam mu yan.One thing pa hindi tayo perpekto maging ikaw.I do believe if we don’t make any mistakes in our lives we do not know how to make things right. ok????
In my own opinion, people have the right to react naman. That was a beauty and brains competition, not just a “beauty competition”. And clearly Janina failed on the second one (at least during that very moment when she’s supposed to show everyone that she is a true beauty still poised under pressure). As what Maggie Wilson pointed out, being just 17 is not an excuse because she was also 17 when she joined the pageant and eventually won the title. And people reacted because she’s gonna be representing the country in the coming Ms. World competition and Phils is one of those countries who don’t bring along interpreters dahil kilala tayo as one of the largest English speaking population in the World! The decision of the judges surprised the country azzz in big time!!A beauty queen is not all beauty lang, she should have the brains to represent herself and her country. Perhaps she won because of some major awards she bagged that night. I never heard of positive reactions regarding her winnings right after the pageant night…lahat nalang pampalubag loob ….. at least here meron. She still has 7 months to prepare, hopefully she could put her act together para mabawi nya ang kanyang reputation….Ms. World Pageant??? That’s gonna be a bigger crowd and big time judges by then! baka lalo na naman siyang kabahan! We sure wish her and the country the best of luck!
well the competition is done and this discussion is just a waste of time, all we have to do is to give support to our candidate not to push him down. let’s prove to the “aliens” that we Filipino’s are very intellectual and not an idiot animal.
duh!blame it to the judges!some of it are not credible…why is marian rivera and dennis trillo there?eh,kaya naman pala nanalo yan eh…ie watched other janina’s interiview like in startalk and read an article from ricky lo,wherein tinanong sila and janina was allowed to answer in tagalog,ang sagot nya ay simple lang,wala pa rin depth at impact..tama si charlene dapat galing sa puso,ang venezuela nga ngdala ng interpreter..kaya lang kasi, ang philippines ay known na rin sa ibang country that we are..they was,,,they..we..ahahaha!good in english speaking ever!d ba?!edge nga natin yon eh!pero cg na nga,dapat mgtagalog ka nlang talaga janina!GOGOGOGo

Haley, you have a point of view. But don’t be too much hesitant of your words. Since Janina, not good in English, why don’t you volunteer yourself as her interpreter, so your ass will calm down. Isn’t it? What do you think, you can make it? so you will experience to be on stage and so too hear your good… a very very good English of yours. let’s find out.
i agree to ruffa ,she doesn’t indulge janina shes just giving some idea to know how to perform or to what to do,,and what she needs to have aside of beauty..theres nothing wrong about it,about janina she just need to listen about the other comment and dont be over confident specially the way she talk in english you’ll getting annoying you just pretending that youll good in english at the very beggining and in the middle, ur in the middle of nowhere where did u go,, the question , where is it now and u didnt answer it right. but i know theres a second chance for you so thats why the judges pick you up so study hard and good luck until u reach the pageant again…
i know it’s already late to post a comment but i would like to take this opportunity to tell everybody that miss ruffa g. had no bad intention on what she said about janina..she was just a concern citizen whose giving an advice to janina because janina will represent our country…and besides miss ruffa is a beauty queen also so she know what does it take to be a real beauty queen…
for janina hope u didn’t take that advice negatively but take that as a lesson from an experienced person…so to all peace po tayong lahat and let’s just pray for janina’s next pageant…

janina is not deserving to bag the title Bb. Pilipinas World because miss patricia fernandez is much better in all aspects. Would you like to support a candidate who could never construct simple sentence in English especially in a very prestigious pageant like miss world? It takes years to learn good english and not for 7 months only. By the way janina is never been half the beauty and intelligence ruffa have. So to janina pls surrender your title to the deserving ones who could represent the country much better than you could have.

sa laht ng nanlalait ky janina manigas kyo kc alam nyo dehins lhat ng pageant matalino so don’t expect na mapeperfect nila o masasastify nila ung judges sa pagsagot nung questions.And besides nobody is perfect!!
so it means bago kayo manglait tanung nyo muna sa sarili nyo kung anung mararamdaman mo kapag ikaw ung nandun sa pageant ‘no!!!!
tignan nyo muna sarili nyo bgo kyo mang lait!!!!!!!!!!
