Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat – silly than funny
Okay, how do I start this review on Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat. This is just a personal take on the movie so please don’t get suicidal with me, okie? Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat is supposed to be a good movie but then something went amiss along the way.
Let’s start off with the characters. Candy Pangilinan, Rufa Mae Quinto, Eugene Domingo, and Pokwang are all great comediennes. I specifically watched the movie because of that premise. It’s good to see them perform individually so how much more seeing them perform together? That would be an amazing treat. Or so I thought.
I have to say that I can count with my one hand the number of times I actually laughed while watching the film. Most were ‘forced’ grin and chuckle. Forced, because most of the scenes were not really funny. I seldom laugh at super silly things so I was really having a hard time trying to enjoy the movie.
I honestly think that the four great actresses could have done better. I think they were so confined with the characters that they play that they forgot that they can be funny without being silly. Do we always have to look stupid in order to get a laugh from our audience? I don’t think so. I think the Pinoy audience have already grown out of the silly slapstick comedy. We want something that has more substance. Not more silliness.
Apat Dapat, Dapat Apat is a silly movie that tries to prove the significance of friendship and all that jazz. There are some funny moments but they were outweighed by the utter silliness that I consider it not funny as a whole. I just hope that in the future, we could have movies like Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo – a movie that’s funny but not silly (at least for the most part). A movie that doesn’t have to force laughter out of its viewers.
