‘Shooter’ hits target

Shooter is currently receiving rave reviews lately. Mark Wahlberg is hot, sporting his famous angry scowl, which by the way looks like it has never been touched by a New Jersey plastic surgeon and which makes the women just fall down on their knees. Well in this movie, at least. Here’s what some folks have to say about the film.
Despite its flaws, Shooter is consistently entertaining and a solid popcorn flick. It’s the kind of movie we need in the early spring season to help hold us over until the Summer Blockbusters start arriving. [Past The Popcorn]

It’s official—Mark Wahlberg is a movie star. Though it seems kind of strange having to state such an obvious fact (I mean, he did star in blockbusters like ‘A Perfect Storm’ and critical favorites like ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘Three Kings’), it nevertheless needed to be said.
There are too many non-believers out there (and they have always baffled me). The guy is mad talented. He’s oddly good looking, incredibly edgy, wonderfully funny (Wahlberg has that natural comic timing that can’t be taught), poignantly vulnerable and at times, overwhelimingly romantic. Director Antoine Fuqua (“Tears of the Sun,” “King Arthur”) finally pulls the action-film ingredients together coherently. “Shooter” may not be the brightest boy in class, but he’s tough and he’s got heart. I smell a sequel. [Boston Herald]
